07.Selective Colorization

Here is an assignment to carry us through the winter break. Selective colorization is the manipulation of an image such that specific objects or areas of the photo are in color and the majority of the image is black and white. This technique is the 2x4 of attracting the eye to focus on a particular piece of an image. And while not subtle, it can be very effective. Have fun with this and lets plan on meeting up on Tuesday, January 5th over lunch to discuss.

06. Depth of field .bkroll

I shot this a couple of weeks ago during and engagement session I was doing. The idea here was to use a small depth of field to bring your eye in on the detail of the ring while still capturing the interaction of the couple beyond.

06.Depth of Field A.Gray

This image utilized a flash technique with the finger in the background being under the leaf and the caterpillar on the leave receiving the flash. He was a bit of a mover and shaker, so this was a difficult task.

Rockbridge State Park

On a family hike through Rock Bridge State Park, the boys were fascinated by the texture and the growy-stuff on this log. I used a shallow depth of field to focus attention on this detail. Interestingly, I find the bokeh almost as interesting as the log itself.
